How to Use the Body Shape Calculator

The result is only as consistent as the measurements. Take each value while standing naturally, breathing normally and keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

1. Measure the bust

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of the chest. Keep it level across the back and do not compress the tissue.

2. Find waist and hips

Measure the natural waist at the narrowest comfortable point, the high hip around the upper pelvic area, and the full hip around the widest seat.

3. Compare the result

Calculate once, then repeat the measurements. If a small tape change switches categories, treat your proportions as near the boundary between two shapes.

Body Shape Types and Ratio Signals

Body-shape systems simplify continuous human variation into useful clothing and proportion labels. This calculator uses neutral measurement relationships rather than appearance judgments.

Hourglass

Bust and full hip are within about five percent, while both waist ratios are about 0.75 or lower.

Balanced top and bottom with a defined waist.

Triangle

Full hip measures more than about five percent wider than bust.

More width below the waist.

Inverted triangle

Bust measures more than about five percent wider than full hip.

More width above the waist.

Rectangle

Bust and hips are close, but the waist difference is smaller than the hourglass threshold.

Relatively straight bust–waist–hip line.

Round

Waist or high hip is close to the width of the bust and full hip.

More central fullness in the measured outline.

Where to Measure Bust, Waist and Hips

Do not substitute clothing sizes. Size labels vary by brand and country, while direct circumference measurements can be repeated.

Body Shape Calculation Example

A 36-inch bust, 28-inch waist, 34-inch high hip and 38-inch full hip produce a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.74 and a bust–hip difference of about 5.3%. The calculator places that set near the triangle boundary because the hips are slightly wider than the bust.

Accuracy, Boundaries and Limitations

No body-type formula can capture posture, shoulders, muscle distribution, bone structure or how clothing changes a silhouette.

  • A difference of one or two centimeters can change a borderline category, so repeat each measurement.
  • Pregnancy, bloating, recent weight change and the time of day can alter waist and hip readings.
  • Shoulder width is not an input; people with the same circumferences can look different from the front.
  • The result does not indicate health, fitness, attractiveness, sex or gender, and it should not guide medical decisions.
